'[OT] Strobe light fountain'

This uses a PIC to strobe lights that make drops of water go slow, stop, or even backwards. There is a short video that was pretty impressive.

(I had to click twice to get to the site. Maybe it is overloaded a bit.)

Cool. I'm in the market for pond ideas. Will have a think about how
I could use that. Working on this
http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/joecolquitt/full.jpg
Any ideas you've got, no matter how nutty (short of using it as
a nut bowl) appreciated. And the more PICs the merrier. Have
thought of the obvious - lights, selectable water jets, waterfall,
fountain, fogger etc. Maybe small RC submarine or other thing
to keep fish entertained/on their toes (fish fingers ?), mirrors etc
Pond is 1.8m square, 70cm deep, water supply has a 1.6m head
at about 1500l/hr. Possibilities for waterwheels (hydropower for
battery or other low-power devices ?) and other mechanicals

It is rather. Sort of thing that it wouldn't be too hard to build. had a
look at eBay.uk and this guy has a selection of dyes ...

I would be tempted to try and arrange one of those jets that produces a
"rod" of water going across the pond. have several, each with a different
coloured dye (see eBay link above for "starter" dye sets) and some UV Leds,
and pulse the water for short enough periods you could seem to have
different coloured rods of water stationary above the pond at different
angles. Trouble would be you couldn't move the water fast enough to keep it
stationary, and the strobing would be obvious. Still make a talking point
for guests at the barbie ...

I'll ruin you......you'll never programme in Torquay again !!

"I say, which dye actually killed the fish ?"
Jets are a good idea though, maybe dancing jets. Musing about
a small solar-tracking mirror (because the sun is the wrong side
of the pond, stupid sun) to hold a rainbow over the pond

Well, I was thinking that the lumps of water with dye in them would have
their own system, otherwise all the different colours would get mixed after
the first couple of minutes ... ;)

I would think some sort of a periscope that brings the side window to eye
level would be interesting.
Webcam has been done, but never very well that I have seen. I high
resolution web cam with top quality image compression software looking in on
a nice fish tank... That would be great.

How 'bout doing the strobe light fountain in reverse? Set it up as rising bubbles and a strobe... could be interesting.

Hmmm, the germ of an idea there

How about people-tracking jets?
