'[OT] SMT Microscopes'

I'm in the market for a stereo microscope for doing SMT work at home. I
have one at work and the difference is night and day from trying to use a
magnifying glass.
I'm thinking about one of these:
www.boommicroscopes.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=
458&zenid=9504e6cbdce9e3cb87a831a82a80a356
Does anyone have any experience with this particular microscope or
BoomMicroscopes.com in general?
Any other microscopes in the same ($600) price range as this scope that I
should look at? Any gotchas, experiences or recommendations in general?
Thanks,
DougM

I got lucky, I have a stereo microscope that used to be part of an
electron microscope. Very deep field, allows me to work at a
comfortable distance away, and get lots of light in.
Beware, some have two eyepieces, but don't deliver stereo vision.

They were .gif files, one was 112 bytes (a dot) and the other was 753 bytes
(a little shooting star).
I don't know off the top of my head whether a virus can be transmitted via
.gif. If so I'm screwed, except that what kind of virus can you transmit in
753 bytes that also shows a valid image.
I wasn't able to find what you were referring to on eBay, though. Do you
have a link?
Thanks,
DougM

FWIW, they seemed to have been eBay images from
<http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/icon/iconShootYllw_25x25.gif> and
<http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gif>.
Maybe Derward picked them up while copying and pasting the URL from an eBay
page?

I'm not sure about the dot, but the shooting star was the eBay 10,000+
feedback icon from the seller you named in your email.
As you have their feedback score in the email, I am guessing you cut and
pasted the name from the eBay page? If I cut-paste in this way, I get the
name, the feedback count (one more than your cut-paste) and the shooting
star, The list will automatically strip the email down to text only, also,
if you are using outlook, did it offer to convert to text (lost tables
formatting)?

Here is a direct link to their E-Bay store:
http://stores.ebay.com/Precision-World
I was surprised at how nice the prices are. I have little experience
with microscopes aside from the one I use here, so they may be
peddling no-name 'stuff', but the prices are very good compared to the
last time I looked.
Seems one can pick up a 3-90x trinocular microscope with a USB camera
and articulated arm for about $800. A regular stereo drops to around
$500.
