'[OT] PICList.com down: DNS server fail at Register'

Register.com which provides domain name registration and DNS service for
piclist.com is dead.
Anyone want to advise me on how to setup an alternate DNS service provider
so half my name servers can be somewhere else? I'll pay a bit...

Oh wait... I won't get your email.... well, until later anyway...

I setup a new DNS server at http://www.zoneedit.com for my domains and PICList.com /finally/ seems to be
working from there. Only took 6 hours for them to get it started. :scowl:

Register.com apparently will (brilliantly) not host DNS /and/ allow a backup
name server from elsewhere... either they host ALL the dns name servers for
your domain, or none. Since I pay them $35 a year for domain registration
AND DNS hosting, I will either go back to having them as the only name
server or transfer my domains to a new (cheaper) registrar and pay some
third party to host DNS.

Any suggestions?

I use dotdnr.com which is $15/yr
They host one of my names and my server hosts the rest. It's always
worked as far as I can tell, for the last ~10 years.

Funny you should ask.  I want off of Godaddy (~10 domains currently),  so I recently asked for recommendations and found out that gandi.net  is highly respected (at least for registration, which is all I need  here).  They're based in France, but that's fine with me, and ~US$42  for 3 years for a .com.  Several thumbs down for register.com.

Cheers,
-Neil.

I use digiweb.ie €8 approx a year for .com, .org .biz .info .net
..eu .co.uk and .ie more expensive.

Maybe the largest irish Registrar and Hosting provider
