Hi List,

Are there really only 3 people from PICList on Facebook?

I just joined Facebook to keep in touch with a friend from college, and
noticed that the PicList group has only three members (myself included).

Also, why does the name of the group's creator (Guillermo Leyendeker) does
not ring a bell? :)

You mean the name to trigger some alert? - then I don't know; - no any
alert system in my possession, - willing to share more details on
yours?

Whoop de do.  I joined.  Now what?  (I haven't been very impressed
with the functionality of "groups" on facebook (or any other Social
Networking Site for that matter.))

Why would the name someone uses on facebook match the name they use on
PICList, even supposing that either one is anywhere close to a real
name?

Hmmm, facebook rules do need that you use real name... :)
of course you can use something else and it will hardly be noticed!

They also need your birthday and some other personal data which I never give
them the real one -- too much afraid of social engineering...

I believe Vitaliy means that he doesn't even remember seeing Guillermo
here on the mailing list.

What is a "real name" today?

When sites like this ask for my real birthday, I tweak it a bit.  They're
not going to know the difference, but it's not going to match what's on my
"official" documents.  Besides, who wants to admit their real age on one of
these things.  ;-)

Real Name (tm) is the one shown on your passport or driving licence until
you change that name to something else :-)

For example one of my brother-in-law has a Hungarian father, Spanish mother
and he was born in the UK. He had his British name till they moved to
Hungary where they did not accept an English first name when they got the
citizenship, so he changed his name to something else. When they moved to
Spain for a while he was using the Spanish version of his English name. Back
to the UK he started to use his English name in its original form again. Now
he lives again in Hungary but kept his British citizenship so he did not had
to change his name, however, it was a huge fight in between the Hungarian
government where they did not want to understand that his name now is not
the one that he was using many years ago but the English one...

Confusing enough :-)

I guess if your initial are DOS, they will not realise that Jan 1, 1980 is
really correct ... ;))))

And what's special about that? There are zillion groups out there, and
"PICList" is not any kind of trademark, just a combination of 7
letters. Perhaps the guy meant "PICtures List" or whatever.

Maybe, however, the founder of that group likes Microchip's logo as the main
PICture :-)
