Anyone ever have issues with faxing/sending Olimex a CC number?  ie...fraudulant charges after the fact (not by them...but others that might have gotten a hold of it)

The last time I ordered from them I send have the number via email and the
other half via fax. No problems.

Right now, I can't get a response from them via email. And it isn't the
yearly month long vacation time. Are others able to get comms with olimex?

I only ordered from them one time, about two years ago, but they were
excellent. Very fast turnaround, and very reasonable prices.   No credit
card fraud yet. :-)

I for sure have not experienced any such problems. IIRC the first time I
emailed half of the details (in a GIF), and faxed the other half. Now I
just say "same CC as before, starting with XXXX".

same with me. I believe they find the fax is the safest way to send them the
CC info, as it is much less likely to be intercepted than any form of
internet transfer of the same information. I have never had a problem on the
two times I have done it over the last 14 months or so.

The great thing is that once they have the information, if you re-order the
same thing in the same quantity within a year, they use the same CC info
they already have.

I appreciate all the feedback, and yes, I believe that the fax'ed CC info is about as safe as you can get.

Not really that relevant here, but CC numbers seem to be better identified
by the last 4 or so numbers, as the first ones are bank numbers or
something the like and often don't change between different CCs, even of
different owners.

Correct. The first four identify the bank, and there are "ranges" for
different banks or credit card providers. It's not widely discussed, but
it's not all that secret either.

A funny thing happened once, when a certain major provider of mag cards had
been providing test cards with a valid but bogus credit card number (passes
LUHN check) and then visa expanded it's range and issued that card number to
someone...   I think their first statement would have had to be delivered by
truck.
