'[OT] Mic to MT8870 in'
I've seen a couple of posts about Mitel's MT8870 and
I would like to know if I can get it to recognize DTMF tones
using a MIC on chip input or these chips can only be interfaced
to the phone line.

You bet you can! You will need some gain between the microphone and
the 8870 to bring the signal level up to "scratch", a couple of hundred
millivolts P-P IIRC.

Well, interfacing to a phone line is just interfacing to a remote
microphone... And remember those acoustically-coupled diallers
available for non-touch-tone phones? Hmmm, well if you live in a
country that has had T-T for a very long time, maybe you don't. ;-)
Hmmm. What are you going to do with it?

of course it is possible after some amplification because of the chip is
sensitive (about 100mV or so).
