'[OT] Looking for USB Complete 3rd Edition'

Hi all. I'm finally ready to jump into the USB world, so I need a book
to help me out. I'm looking to buy the 3rd edition of Jan Axelson's
USB Complete. Catch is, I'm in Canada. amazon.ca has it for only
CDN$46, but they say "Usually ships within 1 to 2 months". No dice.
Chapters.ca has it in stock, but they want $20 more.

Does anyone have any tips on where else to look?

Thanks!

Josh

I notice that amazon.com in the US has it (used) for $30.39.  If around
5 or 6 dollars is added for shipping, that brings it up to around $36,
roughly.  Can't you order from the US?  I thought Canada was our
friend?  No?  Or perhaps I do not grasp the difference between the
exchange rate (which is entirely possible -- although I still harbor a
grudge for the people on the ferryboat between Seattle and Vancouver
gypping me.  :-)

Josh:-

I can highly recommend bn.com. They ship from NYC area and charge in
USD, but collect & remit Canadian GST so it comes right through in a week
or so (assuming it's in stock), with no extra charges. They do have the
THIRD edition in stock.

At $50 US plus shipping for non-members you'll still probably save a bit
over the CDN 70 (=US 60) from Chapters, even with the 2.5% that Visa/MC
steal off the interbank rate. But if you need it now, why not
just pop in to your local store and pick it up (after leafing through it
to make sure it is what you need)?

Hmm, I hadn't thought of BN. Still, the savings aren't significant
enough to warrant me waiting for a week! I think I'll try to get
Chapters to match Amazon's price (though I doubt they will).

Thanks!

I THINK I have a pristine copy stashed away in storage. Hang on, email
me privately.
I'll sell it for a song.

http://www.beyondlogic.org ?
They have a pretty big section on USB connectivity.  I'm going through
it right now, in conjunction with Microchip's RS-232 -> USB AppNote
to see if I can figure out what's going on.  It seems to be somewhat
helpful, but I have no feel for how it compares to the Axelson book.

Anyone want to weigh in on that?

Josh,

Try looking here.  Glenn automatically searches many of the largest
online book sellers.  Looks like eight (or more) large volume sellers in
new or like new on half at under $US37.

www.lvr.com might be a good place to try - Jan Axelson's site. From
http://www.lvr.com/ordering.htm, you should be able to order it for
$50 - 20% (mention the website) + $5 shipping = $45US.

And you can't have my copy :)

Hmm...I don't know how I missed that page. Thanks for the tip! If Bob
can't find his copy, this is definitely another option.

Good catch. I'll talk to Jan and see if we can work something out.
Otherwise...it's far less hassle to buy it here. UPS fees would more
than kill any discount I'd be getting.
