If you enclose the link between < and > brackets, most email clients
will treat it as a link and not insert any line breaks.

For which my experience is "most of the time", but it can still cause line
breaks, and have part of the link not included as link. I do admit that the
brackets improve the situation though.

As long as we (collectively :) insist in using plain-text ASCII with fixed
(and rather limited) line lengths without any standards for links and other
more "sophisticated" content that may exceed these limits, we're bound to
go with solutions that work "most of the time" :)
