As having done ladder logic programming (PLC) for about 20 years, each piece of software targeted to a brand (A/B, modicon, siemens, etc) is a little different.  What I find rather curious....ladder logic in itself is a throwback to when electriians would wire up panels using relays....timers....hard contacts...etc so when the first PLC's came out to replace the relays....they had to make the listings look like the old ladder logic diagrams.  Now of course, you can still do it in that method or generate it in a more mathamatical function.  Someplace I have a link to a PIC designed to act like a PLC, never have looke too close at it.  But when i do a project...im always asked for the ladder diagram.....so just used to providing it and programming the PLC that way.

Sometimes the local rep or distributors have demo boxes...software, etc  so you might check with them to see if they can give you something to play with.

I looked at the mikroelektronika stuff this weekend, it's so
lightweight that it's
useless.

The plcsimulator.net has more info, it will keep me going for the next couple
of weeks.  Then I'll have to get into more detail.

Thanks guys!

I looked it over some more and I guess it is for the person that would
say " What is PLC or  What is a ladder diagram"

But then I only looked at it for 5 min.

Their other books are very good for the first timer considering they are
free.

Allen Bradley has pdfs online for about all their products.  Go to
http://www.ab.com and type "1747-RM001D-EN-P" in the search box.  You will then get
a link to the SLC500 instruction set.
