Tim's 3 Secret Life series were fascinating viewing

http://www.timhunkin.com/control/n_tv_index.htm

Looked at the very basics of machines and appliances. Not
peak-time programming at all. But could/should have been
IMVHO, but I'm a geek at heart

It's like what a lot of us get up to (not the grandiose schemes
of Monster Garage / Scrapheap / Mythbusters), and I was so
into it at the time

One of these days I'll have to get them off tape and onto CDs.
Very educational for the technically-minded young 'un

You can download them.  It's about 4 gig all up, I think.  As he says,
BitTorrent is best.

Yup, I saw that. I decided against it

Takes me 4 hours to d/l a 33MB South Park with BitTorrent
and dial-up

4GB => 18 * 220MB => a fuppin' long time

Way quicker to transcribe from VHS to .rm. I don't know what
the resolution of his AVIs are (is ?). It's not like SLOM is action-
packed. I can make a good quality 48-minute Mythbusters at
120MB, so that would make his episodes ~ 75MB. Not too
bad, 2 CDs would cover 18 episodes. I've already seen them
and have them on tape, so it's not like I'm busting a gut to do it

Anybody who's able should have a look at Tim's programmes
though. What's the word for them ; quaint, eccentric, charming ?

I'll second the motion the everyone should watch them.

I'm not sure of the quality, given the size it should be pretty good.  It's
been a while since they've been shown on telly here (8 years?) and I'd
missed the one on cars, and a couple of the office ones.

.rm?  Not .mov?

It's been in my torrent queue for a while now...

Agreed!  They were brilliant, and it's a shame he stopped where he did.

An ex-girlfriend of mine (who is a Tim Hunkin / Rex Garrod fan) uses the word: Widgety.  I think it fits rather well!

I managed to buy the Secret Life series on DVD direct from Tim a
couple of years ago.  The production company had no plans to release
the series on DVD but Tim had been given permission to sell small
quantities of DVDs for educational use.

He's just the same in real life as he is on TV - a thoroughly nice chap :-)
