'[OT] In Seattle this week - anything in particular'

I'm on a road trip with my family across northern US, and I'm in Seattle until Friday.  Anyone I should visit, or anything I should make sure I do while I'm out here?

I have my (not yet programmed) Mom Find Me prototype (LCD, GPS, zigbee, compass, SD card) and some 7 and 14 segment serial LCDs I'm planning on selling at the upcoming Detroit Maker Faire if anyone is interested in seeing those in person.

And, as always, I'm looking for more contracts and projects, so if anyone in the area needs to get something PICish (or embeddedish) done, here's an opportunity to meet face to face.

After this week I'm heading through Idaho, South Dakota, Iowa, and back to Michigan (and will be passing through the states in-between).

-Adam

>From my trip:
My wife was driving while talking on the phone, and we were coming up to an exit we knew we needed to take.  I had told the kids to be quiet so we wouldn't miss the exit, and so she could complete her call quickly.

Hunter (8) said, "Dad?" and I responded, "Not right now, Hunter, unless it's important." and he remained silent.

Micah, (6) said, "Dad?" and I responded the same way.  After thinking for a moment he said, "It's important."  I said, "Ok, what is it?"

"I love you."

Sounds like he's headed for a successful career in politics.

If coming further East than Detroit, we are just West of Cleveland in
North Central Ohio, easy to get to. Reply privately.

The Pike Place Market at the north end of downtown is a must-see.  It's a
farmers market/craftfair/etc kind of place - infamous for the salmon
throwing fish market.  I always look at it as having something for all the
senses.  Plenty to see, street musicians to hear (some of whom are very
good), the smell of hot cinnamon rolls...

The original Starbucks is located at the Market and there are a number of
hole-in-the-wall restaurants all around the Market which wonderful food.
The park at the north end of the Market has a great view of the waterfront.

If you go there, there is a parking garage on Western, the next street
towards the water, that isn't too outrageous.

Just west of Cleveland.  Are you anywhere near Loraine?

Yes, 14 miles South  of Lake Erie at Lorain in Lagrange, Ohio. We are
not that far off the Ohio Turnpike. How many, what ages are traveling?
How long in the area? What type activities are typical? We are very
familiar with area from Detroit to the Pennsylvania border, down to
central Ohio. Can suggest activities, places to eat, stay, etc. Might be
able to provide a meal or something, but too early to work on that, :)
There are many neat things in the area museums, kids things, many free,
up to Cedar Point at Sandusky, considered the roller coaster capital of
the world that gets a little expensive.

I lived there for 7 years.....

The ferry to Bainbridge Island is a nice little ferry ride (you've got to do
something on Puget Sound while you're there; there are also ferries to the
San Juan's (very scenic; Friday Harbor is a popular destination for a small
on-water trip) and takes round trip it can give you a perspective of Seattle
and hopefully it will be clear enough to see Mt Rainier.  Also, if you are
into absolutely fabulous one-of-a-kind furniture made by true artisans there
is a trade guild about 2 blocks off of Pioneer Square that is breathtaking.
(I make furniture and I couldn't make furniture like that in 100 years).
Also in the same area there are art (oil and watercolor), glass (blowing; in
every shape), and antique stores.

If you'd like to take a ferry, which is a great suggestion, I'd recommend
the Bremerton ferry rather than the Bainbridge Island.  Downtown Bremerton
has the recently opened Naval Museum and there are great views of the ships
at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as the ferry nears Bremerton.  I highly
recommend leaving the car and walking aboard if you just want to make a
round trip as the summer car rates are outrageous.
