I have to say I had the same thoughts as Russell on seeing the post, but was too weary of the whole thing to say anything.
It all goes back to the "extra words" discussion a while ago.
I guess the attitude here is something like "I know what I mean, and if anyone else is offended by it then that's their problem" I find it hard to believe that you are unaware that this kind of stuff could be misinterpreted, so you are obviously willing to risk offence even if not intended.
If it wasn't a snide comment, *why* not just make it clear in the first place as you have done above?
Then we wouldn't spend all this time going round in circles, and have less to "Get over" or "Give a rest" :-)

Needless to say, you have our attention.

You probably think that Russell and I are trying to shape the Piclist by
modifying people's behavior to fit. It depends on how you look at it.

But by this time you know what we want and we know what you want. It's
your serve and 0-40.

Frankly yes, at least partially.  It's time to grow some thicker skin.

I didn't think of it that way, and thought at the time my comment was clear
enough.  Note that I didn't actually say or imply anything bad.  You chose
to interpet it that way.

Converserly, it works just as well if nobody chooses to get offended.  And
yes, getting offended is a choice.

I read this thread the same way Russel did, and I see no other way to take Olin's comment as anything but accusatory and insulting.  And as with nearly all of Olin's posts that start a minor flame war, it is apparently because we are too easily offended, "I wasn't trying to ... [fill in the blank with b.s. du jour]", and that we all need a thicker skin..

Olin is definitely smart enough to understand the difference between posting:

"I do by designing new stuff, not by trying to reverse engineer
others' designs."

vs.

"Do you need to do this often?  Why?"
and then working with the OP's answer for this, instead of assuming and insulting.

So when will Olin be kicked off PIClist for good?  How many times has it been?  Why does having world-class EE design skills keep giving him a pass on this?

I don't usually chime in on this stuff, but...

FWIW: I strongly think Olin's comment regarding reverse engineering was;
A: Not intended to be insulting
B: Should not be taken as such

Yeah, yeah, you know what we know what you know what we want, and so
on. Sorry guys, let me stay off the stupid game. I'm thinking to drop
my participation in this forum to virtually zero level.

No offence intended, hey R, do you see this

No, I didn't.  If I recall correctly, it was Bob Blick who said:

Please be more careful whom you attribute what quotes to.
