Whenever I open up MPLAB, a million sub-windows open  up. I hate
nested windows. How do you make everything go into one window like
this?

I would suggest that you go to Help, then Topics, then MPLAB IDE, and you
start looking there.

With a minimal amount of effort, you'll find MPLAB IDE Reference -> Windows,
which will tell you how to do this.

If you'd spent some time with the help file, you would have found your
answer more quickly than asking the list and waiting for a response.

RTFM, look for 'docking'

As a first hint, you can make a normal window (rounded corners) dockable
by selecting that in the system menu (top left icon of the window).

Then drag the window by its titlebar to one of the screen edges, or the edge
of an already docked window, and it will 'dock' there ...
