I'm wanting a hand-held oscilloscope; does anyone have any
recommendations and/or experience with any? Suggestions for
places to buy from would be welcome too.

TIA, Clyde

Hi Clyde,

I haven't seen any hand-held scopes that have cathode ray tubes for a few
years now. How about one with an LCD screen? :-)

I've had a Tektronix THS720 since 1995 and it's been great. The input
channels are isolated from each other and everything else, there's a
serial port and separate DMM input. It's a little large, but it's been
great. There are a couple of new models now.

Expensive, but you get what you pay for.

See a screen shot from mine at:

I bought mine from Print Products International here in the U.S. They
discount Tek and/or make bundle deals which is fairly rare for Tektronix
products. Don't know about any Tek dealers in .au.

I have one as well, and love it.  The WaveStar softare (optional) is a
great add-on.  The dealers can cut 5% without thinking twice, so go ahead
and tell them you'll pay full price if they throw in the software.  IT'S
WORTH IT!

Clyde,

We've been using an HP LogicDart hand held for about a year or so and have
been very pleased with it. It's got an LCD screen, 3 channels (trigger on
any channel on +ve, -ve or either edge/high or low logic level), simple DC
voltage & frequency measurement, timebase from 10ns/div to 20s/div. It
comes with a decent set of probes as well, seems to be splash of
water/hydraulic oil proof (we've tested) and very easy to use with one
hand.

I can't remember where we bought ours from, but I'm fairly sure it was
about UK#550.

- Andy.

analyser all in one (Going to try and get one in next years budget) its about
£3500 but well worth every penny I have hired one in the past to fix nasty
problem its a verry nice pice of kit and does exactly what it says on the
box.......

Cheers Steve.......

Logic Dart is smaller more portable less expensive alternitve......

Its hard to wrong in choosing Tektronics. The have an 800 series thats really
nice. You can pay less but you'll get less. Check with Future Electronics for
pricing.
