'[OT] DVD burning'

I have a problem with an archive DVD.
Month ago I saved many my archives containing zip, pdf etc. files in a DVD.
Now I can see only one file Trach01.cda but it is empty.
My OS is Win98 and the CD burner is a LG GSA-4160B
There is any way for recover the files?
Thanks

That sounds as much like a laser issue with the drive, often with older
drives historically when they are wearing out they would mis-read the
TOC and determine the disc as being a different format /medium than actual.
I would simply try it in a different drive
If it still doesn't work. There is software for retrieving data from
CD/DVD, although i can't remember its name off the top of my head.
I hope this helps

I don't know about recovering files, but I've found over the years
that media is cheap compared to lost files/time. Burning a 2nd
and even 3rd copy and storing them in separate places is cheap
insurance.

But it does not help much if all copies age and get unreadable at about
the same moment. Which I fear might be the case for (home-written) CDs.

Recently just bended a DVD -- I can;t remember of what reason -- and the two
layer of plastic come off! I think it is less protective to physical attacks
than CD. So yes, do copy to more than one media, store them separately -- I
think some software could handle many writers at a time, so you do not have
to spend more time on doing that.

If you really want to get anal about it (and I do), I use multiple backups:
1) Old hard drives. They are cheap enough now that when I upgrade
a system, I keep the old hard drive around as a backup. And a
second hard drive in the system for "current" backup.
2) CD / DVD backup. Use multiple disks and multiple brands, and spend
a weekend every year or two to make fresh copies (background task
while doing email or whatnot...)

Try to read that DVD with different drives. If you can, set your drive to a
constant low spinning mode (1x, 2x). Also make sure that the DVD media is
clean / your drive is clean. (clean it with material only which is for
purposely cleaning DVDs!). If there is any scratch, you may get better
results in different drive etc...
>From here it is hard to tell if there was an error during the writing
process, but I suppose you did not switch off verify so by that time you
wrote that DVD you pretty sure that the media was written 100% error free?

Do you happen to know *which* software can do this? I'm trying to develop a project to make copies of files to multiple DVDs at once, and so far
I've only found ways of doing it in two stages - create one, then multiplicate (?) it.

I used to use padus disc juggler
http://www.padus.com/
It always had multiple writer support
