Yesterday I ordered from MCM Electronics, one Western Digital 360G, SATA, HDD , regular price $86.00, and from 2 sales fliers $46.99. IT was invoiced at the higher price. A phone call revealed that this unit had been made in a plant hit by the Tsunami, MCM was unable to obtain additional units, and the price went up, shortly after the flier was printed. They refused to honor the flier price, and the package will be refused and returned. They could have changed their part number, made discontinued with a reference to the new part number. I have removed myself from their mailing list. Had been a long time regular smaller customer.

PS: The PICLIST  is a mailing list of 4000 electronics orientated people worldwid

Sorry to hear that. I have been a trivial customer for many years.
It seems to me that when a business intentionally takes a step towards poor customer service they will be out of business very soon.

I can understand being upset because they wouldn't honor the flier
price.
And I can somewhat understand removing yourself from the mailing list.
But, if this is the first time something like this has happened, I
wouldn't  jump to such hasty actions.  I'm not saying I condone this type of
business  conduct, but I wouldn't cutoff a relationship with anyone or any
business  for one mistake like this.  The difference is only ~$40.00.
I remember the first 20MB HDD I bought.  It was over $400.00.  And some
years  later, I bought a 1GIG for about the same amount.  The the first 4 Gig
for about  that same amount.  Now we're talking HUNDREDS of GIG for less than
$100.00.

I wouldn't squabble ovr $40.00.  But that's just me.  YMMV.

 Regards,

Jim

I really wouldn't mind if you could write me a $40 cheque

I wouldn't mine either if I could write you a $40 check.
But alas, I cannot.

Jim

Hat: Spring bonnet (southern hemisphere).

It would be really really good if the mild and harmless banter on this
thread does not inexplicably turn into something less pleasant, as
inexplicably seems to happen often enough when harmless banterings of
this sort arise.

Of itself I'm not even overly concerned if people turn harmless
banterings into pushings and shovings - guys have to do what guys seem
to have to do on occasion, who can say why. But there tend to also be
less welcome spinoffs often enough that I feel stirred enough to
comment now.

The intention with the posting, was to warn people that some electronics hardware supply/prices, in this case HDD's, was coming to be an issue, and my experience on this topic with particular vendor. The $40 wasn't so much an issue, as was the fact that, it took a 2nd phone call from me to determine the facts, that natural catastrophe was the cause, but the vendor's action were less than great! Checking other vendor's web sites, revealed small selection, and high prices. Fry's (2 weeks ago I spent a couple of hours browsing their Atlanta store, and was very impressed) the other night, explained the situation, limited HDD purchases to 1 per customer, and the selection was few! The end result: MCM offered a 20% discount and free shipping next order, that I applied to this order. I had refused delivery of the UPS shipment, later same day, agreed to the terms, MCM was able to contact UPS, turn around the package, and was delivered later the scheduled day. I have placed myself back on the mailing list. A day later the HDD was online, "Out of Stock" at the higher price. I had suggested to MCM, that when a situation like this occurs, to discontinue the low price SKU, assign a new SKU at the new price, and then when going for the old SKU to provide a link to the new SKU, and other options. :)

I am glad you got it worked out.

I bought my wife an inexpensive HP wireless color printer (Refurb) from Tiger Direct a while back and it gets errors and requires physical attention frequently. Strange noises too! Contacting HP resulted in them denying warranty as published because they claim Tiger Direct did not get the machine through proper channels.  Tiger says after you have it 30 days they are no longer involved.

If I get caught up enough to spend the time I will write a few letters help them protect their reputations. The amount involve is about the same as a new print cartridge...!

I have since bought a new HP All-in-One Desktop computer through Tiger. Great machine, good price, quick delivery.
I will not let a bad experience keep me from future decisions.

I really cannot understand how either company will risk their reputation over such a trivial situation!
