Hi,

I posted a question yesterday and noone responded. Not griping mind you, but
for this list, no response is highly unusual <g>.  I just wanted to make
sure my post went through.  I changed my list settings so I would see my own
posts and I'm sending the message again :

Actually, yes your posts are getting through, but I don't know the answer to

Sorry!

Subject: [OT] Need advice on part replacement

Hi guys,

Long time no see.  I have a bit of an emergency that I need some advice on.
Our company has an older phone system  that has been discontinued.  Today,
the power supply went out in it.  I can find only one part that is suspect,
it's a Mitsubishi CR6CM Power Mosfet/Thyristor rated at 400V 6A 10mA gate
trigger current.  I went to Radio Shack and they gave me an SCR rated at
400V 6A 25mA gate trigger current.

Will it work ?  Should I even try it ?  Can someone recommend a replacement
that I can overnight from DigiKey or Jameco ? Obviously, time is of the
essence since our company is currently operating with one analog phone <g>.

Thanks for any advice you can offer,

Eric Oliver

 They *all* did.

 Since you gripe:

Well, there's an obvious disparity in trigger current, isn't there?
And in an unfavourable direction.  There are also turn-on times to be
considered.

Not knowing even the function this part has in the equipment in
question, *no-one* is about to take responsibility if you make a swap
to a non-matching device.  Ergo the silence.

Eric,

It should work providing the gate having a higher current
capacity doesn't require more drive than the circuit can supply.

                                            Regards,

                                              Jim
