Hi to all engineers,

Sorry for OT question but since this is a smart list I like to ask you.

1. I am getting windows protection error on my second computer.
hard drive is IDE also I have Adaptec SCSI interface in it that controls
internal CD-ROM, 2Gb Jaz, external Zip and Yamaha CD-R. All terminations
are checked the mother board is dual Pentium pro 200 Mhz, Ram is 256 Mb.
The problem is once it gives me this error it may not work even I restart
about
50 times I even changes the power supply. Yesterday I changed the SCSI card
it the same thing. My question is what is the meaning of
windows protection error ?

2. My brother has 3 computers that are connected  network together and
the software is custem made the one with Microsoft access database file
filename.mdb
and what happened is that last night the network suddenly stopped and
what I
found is that  Microsoft access database file is crashed. the problem is
that
they didn't backup right files so they do not have a backup and
I am unable to open it in Microsoft access program it doesn't recognize
the file.
the file size is 70mb. my question is. is it possible to repair or can
any one try to repair this file. my
brother will pay for service. If anyone are interested please contact
private.

any help will highly appreciated.

Hi Andre,

Do you have an HP printer on that computer that is giving you the
protection error? I don't have a complete explanation, but there is a
known problem with external parallel-port ZIP drives and HP printers.

In most situations like this, you're generally up the creek without a
weasel.  Extremely difficult to fix due to MS's scanty error reporting.
About the access database, I would grieve for the data and reinstall - no
chance of getting it back.  Microsoft software is known to thrash files
beyond recognition when it's in the mood.  In both cases, I would just
reinstall and hope it doesn't happen again - that's about the limit of
what you can do.

I have (rarely) had some success resurrecting files by
attempting to open them with another software package that
recognizes the format: for example, a slightly scrambled
Excel file will sometimes open in Lotus, and vice versa. Then
resave in the original format if it walkes up.  If the second
application can't open it, you are probably doomed.  This
trick will only work if the error is somewhere in the header
area.  Generally something in the rescued file is funny, but
you already knew that...

What did you change just before you got the error?

 Was it perchance the motherboard?
