Anyone know why this message is coded as RETLW  0xNN instructions in the
ICD 2 firmware?

"All Your Base Are Belong To Us"

I'm sure there is a good reason, I would just like to hear it, but probably
only until I do.
Then I will probably regret it...  ;-)

Regards,

Jim

I guess the programmers had a sense of humour!  It is a phrase from an old
video game called "zero wing" that has something of a cult following

Sometimes manufacturers add seemingly sensless and unused pieces of code
to their software to aid them in copyright infringment cases.  Perhaps
they added this so anyone making a direct code copy and selling their
firmware could be more easily prosecuted.

Even if removed they can still prosecute, but it almost makes it trivial
when the infringer copies the firmware without significant changes.

Pretty funny, though.  Reminds me of the microsoft message years ago:
"There was quite a stir when someone found the phrase "Netscape
programmers are Weenies" inside a Microsoft program that had a serious
security flaw. The message had nothing to do with the security flaw, but
it had gone undetected for five years"
from http://www.newsfactor.com/perl/story/19005.html

Main screen turn on:

If you are happy to receive and view a 1.6 MB Shockwave file it will explain
it far far far better than any words.
