We require a US bank account to process sales from web site via Paypal.
Does anyone here know how to open a US based account from within Australia.

Alternately, any other web based system that allows us to accept credit
cards that can be deposited to a VISA account or Australian bank account ?

Help much appreciated

Doesn't PayPal put the funds into your VISA card?

David,

When we started with Paypal, they deposited directly to our VISA account.
They have now changed their system and can only deposit to a US cheque
account.

They hope to be able to bank directly into an Australian Bank account later
in the year but in the meantime this is an inconvenience to intentional
customers. We can only accept TT right now.

You may want to check out eSellerate, which is reached through
MindVision's web site http://www.mindvision.com. Dunno if their cut
will appeal to you though -- ranges from 10% to 15%, dependent on
volume, but that's everything-included. I don't think depositing to
an Australian account would be a problem ...

I don't think customers would like paying the extra for the service. It
would cost them 10% + $30 per transaction when they purchase through us.

I am now looking at ANZ e-gate. It has a larger setup charge and monthly
access charge but this can be spread over all sales. The per sale cost is
only 1.8% to 2.5% + 60c per transaction.

Still looking if you can think of anything else.

David, just open an Aussie account with credit
card facilities. You need to have "mail or phone
orders" enabled with your account too. Then just
process the foreign CC orders into your account
with the amount charged in Aussie dollars, the
banks will automatically do the currency exchange
at no charge to you.

The only thing you have to do is keep an eye on
the currency exchange (today 49.2c) so you
can charge the people the correct amount.
Email me offlist and I can give you more details
if you like. With the Aussie dollar so worthless
at the moment make sure you fix all your prices
to the US dollar and reap the benefits. :o)

credit cards and PayPal tend to get fraud, check out e-gold
http://www.e-gold.com/e-gold.asp?cid=188428 once you get a payment it can
not be 'charged back', technocash is a good product within Australia
http://technocash.com.au they were going to go into the US but that doesn't
seemed to have happened yet.

e-gold is the most international payment method and there are a few sites
online that you can buy e-gold with PayPal/credit cards but fraud may stamp
those out in time.

online e-commerce is pretty easy with e-gold (you can pinch my donation page
at http://opendesign.cx and modify acct# and target links to fit in with
whatever you want to sell)

There are a few credit card processing places you could use but they all
take a (significant) slice of the money, e-gold is 1% capped to US$0.50

If you're referring to eSellerate, what's the extra $30/transaction
for? And the cost isn't to the customer, it's to you the seller.
_All_ of the transaction fees, etc. are contained in eSellerate's
cut. The seller receives advertised price -10% as a monthly deposit
in their bank account. The buyer pays the advertised price. Also, for
US buyers, they only pay sales tax if they live and receive the
product in Nebraska -- kinda unlikely for most techies.

But there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there with
different features ...

Why not talk to Tony Nixon - his setup works well.  Also, if I remember
correctly, he was offering to make space available on his website for
Piclist users to sell stuff.  It sure sounds like he has a handle on how to
deal with International credit cards.

The cost ends up being paid by the customer.

If it costs us 10% to use their system, this would have to be
compensated for by increase of price by 10%.
