Russell,

1. Actually I don't have QP enabled however the problem is solved if
I enable the > things for my replies so tit would appear.

2. The Autotrax EDA http://www.autotraxeda.com  U$495 , your right I took
the A$8000 and forgot the other was in US still less than Protel.

3. It has potential - looks good, the Autorouter and Autoplacer work
quite well.

4. Has Spice and 3D simulator - can be embedded into Excel.

4.Drawbacks - the main one is that the libraries are very small -
almost non existent at this moment apart from standard parts- that is
supposed to be addressed shortly.

5. The download is free and is the full version - if you pay you get
support and (at a date to be announced I assume) upgrades.

6. I recommend a look at it - but don't expect it to be totally upto
Protel at this minute, but as I said it looks as though it could be a
reasonable alternative eventually.

I went ahead and downloaded it (25 meg isn't too long a download on
broadband) but I haven't received my password email yet.

Anybody have any idea as to how soon I should expect it?

Regards, Bob

I got mine in less than 10 seconds - I was surprised how fast.
Haven't tried it out yet. I'm interested to see if it has anything in
common with the old Protel Autotrax, especially file format.

10 seconds?  I make that about 20 Mbits/s.  I though I was spoilt by access
at work, dowloading at 200kbytes/second but you must have a pretty nice
connection!

I wish! What I meant was they emailed me the access key almost as
soon as I pressed the button. Actual download took 1hr40 using a
standard 56k modem. 4.3kbytes/second. Whole thing was a waste of time
but as I only have Win98 SE.

Still interested in others comments about the package though to see
what it is like. I'm not sure if it has any shared genealogy with the
original Protel Autotrax. I think that stuff went down the lines of
CircuitMaker and TraxMaker, now all under the roof of Altium with the
"real" Protel 98, 99 & now DXP.
