'[OT]: suspended from paypal'

I have been using it quite happily for the last 5 months. But last week
with no warning nor any cause that I can see they suspended me.

I faxed my ID card, credit account Statement and drivers licence but was
told today it was still not enough to have my suspension lifted. Instead I
got the following - in part:

<quote>
Unfortunately, your account restriction cannot be lifted at this time.

The address you have listed on your PayPal account does not match the
address you have listed on your credit card statement. Also, have you
recently traveled outside of Hong Kong? If so where? If not, please log
into your account and change your password and secret questions. Please let
us know either by the secure webform via email or you can fax us using the
fax cover sheet and fax us.
You must use the cover page provided by PayPal.
</quote>

Now in the registration THEY asked for a street address which I gave. But
my credit card goes to my PO Box. They themselves caused the reason for my
suspension.

But then he is asking my travel details. 'If so where'? This is none of
their business! How can they have the nerve to ask about my travel history
to get a paypal account??  I have happily told him where he can stick his
questions.

Paypal might be good for the USA/Canada but I warn people in the rest of
the world to stay with credit cards.

I have found since the 11,September, many US based companies have
done strange things. A number will not accept non US based credit
cards.

My guess is that some questionable transactions originated from outside of
Hong Kong and they want to know if it was you or if your account has been
cracked by someone else.

Could be they were hacked and they are trying desperately to manage
damage control.

I've heard of paypal problems from other people.  Accounts being frozen,
people losing money (transfering money but not receiving product, paypal
does nothing and is not liable according to their user agreement, etc).

I use it only for occasional transfers and with people I can deal with
on other levels.  I avoid those that only do paypal, and I don't keep
any significant money in my paypal account.

They are not good at customer service, imho.

If you want to try person-to-person resolution (which may
mean some high phone charges), you can find several
not-otherwise-publicized Paypal phone numbers at

http://www.paypalwarning.com/

I observe that Paypal is coming under media attack for their
lack of response to customer complaints.. Perhaps they are
beginning to realize that some change may be necessary?

Phone charges from HK are very reasonable. A few dollars
for a half-hour phone call. The government isn't as
rapacious as some other gov'ts such as Mexico and
Eastern Europe.

I hope so, I've heard of many problems, and not just outside
the US/Canada. They've recently been bought by eBay, so
maybe they'll clean things up (or maybe not).

You're problems with PayPal are definately not restricted to outside the
US/Canada. They are well known for the draconian measures they take,
suspending accounts for no obvious reason, holding money and enver releasing
it. Hopefully when eBay takes over they will clean it up a little. For the
time being I stay as far away from them as possible. TTYL

I uhhh ... saw, uhhh ... one basic problem that
was sure to draw their attention:

the differing addresses that the original poster
supplied them - a PO box and a regular address!
(That ws the way I rad the first post anyway!)

I like to make things as simple and as foolproof
when working with these types (paypal) - make
everthing consistant from the start and from
then on. To do anything else I'm sure causes con-
fusion in their offices and with their staff (they're
only human, after all).

I have heard many simmilar stories about PayPal which stopped me getting an
account.  It seems people either have no problems at all or are treated
extremely badly by them.

Take a look at

Probably someone hacked your account or someone used your CC illegally
somewhere. I am not with PayPal but this kind of thing is what you'd
expect if someone used your card somewhere without your permission. Try to
prod them to tell you more.

A CC must have a proper address and the address must be correct. You can
have bills shipped to a POB but the CC must correspond to a legal and
existing address. I am not a CC expert ...

That is not a legit question but see above.

Your CC company will likely give you h@ll of worse kind if someone makes
large purchases on your card anywhere on the globe. Not a CC expert ...
