I have some promotional material from NASA Dryden that says that the X-36 is
powered by a Williams International F112 Turbofan engine rated at 700 lbs.
thrust.
The performance characteristics are:
Speed: 52-200 knots
Altitude: 20,000+ ft.
Duration: 30-45 minutes
I haven't seen the Discovery Channel show yet. Apparently, it is part of
NASA Dryden's inactive fleet, and it will cost you some $$$ to get them to
rebuild one.

There are LOTS of small turbines these days. They start for model use
(about 10-15 pounds thrust) for just over $1000. The engines in a lot of
drones and cruise missiles really aren't very much bigger.
Google for "model turbine" and enjoy! Another good place would probably be
http://www.modelairplanenews.com or http://www.airage.com
