       I finally installed TweakUI. The autologin is not working. The help file
says some startup programs may mess up the autologin. Am I stuck, Windoze

Does it give you the option to automate the login?. I've just
reinstalled Windows, and after installing TweakUI it didn't give me that
option - so I installed TweakAll instead, it's a free program included
on a number of magazine disks. It has lots more options than TweakUI,
and the autologin works fine (on my system at least).

       Thanks for the quick response! The option is there in TweakUI, it just
doesn't seem to do anything...

Tell us about your network settings.  What is the login for (windows, netware,
etc).  In your network settings, which login are you using?

Network Neighborhood --> Properties --> Primary Network Logon

To my knowledge, Tweakui should work for windows logon and client for MS
networks.  I'm unsure about novell's netware client.

You might try tweakall anyway, perhaps it is done differently.

Try this :
Create a .reg file, with this content.
Set the username, password and domain name.
Then merge it (right click on it, merge).
Tell if it works,

Matt.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"DefaultDomainName"="youdomainname"
"DefaultUserName"="yourusername"
"DefaultPassword"="yourpassword"
"AutoAdminLogon"="1"

There is also a commercial product called "Easy Logon", it costs $15 US,
downloadable demo.

I have not tried it, but it is mentioned in the O'Reilly book "Windows
Annoyances"

Before I reinstalled everything my system didn't always auto-login
either, usually it's down to too many programs running as it starts up,
try running 'msconfig' to see what is happening.

I didn't see the full history of this message, but if your PC is on a
Network with a Novell Netware client, there are several other keys that have
to be set to automate the Netware portion of the login.  If you have only a
Microsoft client, the following instructions will surely work with Windows
NT.  Not sure about Win2k, and Win95/98 will autologin if you set the
password to nothing (ie: blank password).

-- Mitch

P.S.  If you need the Novell registry keys, email me directly, and I'll get
them from work for you tomorrow.
