'[OT]: Wanted any info on NEC B562 prescaler'

Hello,

sorry to pester the list, but this is my last chance. I have a tuner/IF
strip from an old Panasonic VCR and the tuner has a prescaler on it. It
contains the NEC B562 8-pin DIP chip and takes 50 mA @ 5V (the prescaler)
which means: ECL. It has 2 outputs. I have no instruments to make out the
division factor accurately, so:

If you can hint about the (two) division factors of this chip, please
do. The chip may be 10 years old or so. All other resources, including web
search, were exhausted, you are my last 1620 chances.

thanks,

Peter

PS: This is remotely PIC-related. Guess what I want to do with the
prescaler output.

I have info on a few of their prescalers in the uPD1700 digital tuning
systems
selection guide but not the uPB562 the closest is the uPB564

I tried really hard about 10 years ago to get some uPD1706 to no avail

If you want I send you a scan of what I have

Is it true? that they have, on the new version of windows
managed to increase the MTBF from 95 to 98 minutes
(Thats why they called it 95)

The fact that you mentioned there are two factors suggests that you
already know these are probably 10 and 11.
The basic PLL divides by N. A technique called fractional-N synthesis
allows a PLL to lock to frequencies that are a fraction of N
(e.g. 1 tenth) by alternating between two divisors M and N.
I don't fully understand it.

Then again, basic PLLs are good enough for most TV tuners I've seen.
Check out Philips' all-singing-all-dancing tuners.
Baseband video and audio output, some throw in an FM radio as well!

The factors can be 100, 101 or 128. This is pretty clear for now. I can't
get at the un-amplified signal to check with a normal probe so I'm trying
to guess.

A PIC based PLL of course. The previous PLL deceased.

Do you sometimes get comments on this .sig ?

ually N+1. Thus 10+11, 100,110, 128/129

Nope, I only used it once. Using a sig every message gets tedious.
So I use one occasionally, and don't repeat it.
I got that one from The Dilbert Zone List Of the Day:
World's Worst Sales Slogans. Lord forgive me for the sig!
