Decimalization of hours. Now that would confuse the masses. As a ham 24
hour time is no problem to me as I expect it isn't to all of you. But
you forget how the math challenged have trouble with this.

After my dad passed away a few years ago we bought my mother a computer
(she lives in another state) and got her on the Internet. Well she has
become a net citizen in a big way. She like to buy stuff from ebay, but
they show the auction ending times in 24 hour PST. She lives in the
central time zone. Somehow converting to CST AND going to 12 hour time
proved to be too much for her. If she'd see an auction item ending in 3
or 4 days (too long for the "hours left" to make much sense, she would
miss the auction.

I finally got tired of her calling me to ask me when 15:50PST was so I
wrote a little program to convert ebay time to "normal" time in any
continental US timezone. If anyone has a similar math challenged
individual, you can get a copy at http://www.al-williams.com/bidtime.htm
-- it is a freebie, so help yourself.

Like the old joke:

Stewardess: When was the last time you've kissed a woman?
Pilot: 1950
Stewardess: That seems like a long time...
Pilot: Not really, it is only 2130.

OK, so I cleaned it up a little...

And thank you for that. :=)

Many years ago, my kids were certain that their Daddy couldn't count.
They told my wife that when I got to 9, I started using letters and
they *knew* that after 9, comes 10 and not A.
Have you ever tried to explain number bases to a four-year-old? (It's
not a pretty sight.)

and then after a hard day debugging code in the office, trying to add up the
cheque book in hex......

Been there, done that ;)

interesting ...

I remember learning Octal in grade 1 (age 5 or 6).  The teacher asked and
showed us how a octopus would count.  It seemed that no one in the class had
a problem with counting like an octopus.

When I got to doing programming at TAFE I could not believe the difficulty
the class had in leaning the required bases.ie 2,8,16.  I thought back to
the octopus had no proplems.

And thank you for that. :=)
