'[OT]: Tweaking MTU in Win2K'

part 1 767 bytes content-type:text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"We have recently received a Static IP address from our ISP and have a router for internet
connectivity . The machines on the network run Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro.
The router is pinable using the static IP from our own location but when it is pinged from a remote
location, the returned packet times out. Also, The router cannot be accessed remotely from a
browser.
Our ISP has mentioned that the MTU is set to 1500 and lowering it to 1460 make help.
DrTCP was downloaded but we found this is not suitable for Win2K.
Would someone please advise how we can lower the MTU to 1460 ?
TIA.
Kind Regards

Have you got remote administration turned on on the router?
I had some problems with MTU on my winxp / router configuration which was
resolved by editing the MTU settings in the registry

When I enter the router's IP address (our static IP address) via a browser on the LAN, the router
logon dialog appears and I can enter the configuration setup and edit parameters.
When I do the same thing from a remote location, I get a page not found error.
If I ping the static IP I get "Reply from .... , TTL expired in transit"
Kind Regards

Yep sounds correct, I can view the router's configuration page anywhere on
my local network, but if I try to look at it from an external IP I'll get
nothing. The router has a setting to allow or deny remote adminustration
from an external (WAN side) IP. I have it set to deny, sounds like you do
too...
