'[OT]: Soviet 5-year plan responsible for jaded tem'

I ran across this doing some web research:

+ - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -

In the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
(encompassing one-sixth of the land surface of the
planet), falsification of data of all kinds was a
way of life, especially during the Stalin,
Khrushchev and Brezhnev eras when statistics were
routinely altered to avoid problems with the planning
bureaucracy.

Thus the accuracy of Soviet historical data is dependent
on whether local officials found it necessary, for
economic reasons, to overstate or understate their
recorded temperatures. Anomalies in fuel allocations for
transport, industry and heating under the rigid Communist
5-year plans amounts to a powerful incentive for
falsifying temperature data in some Soviet communities.

+ - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -

Tainted data - what tainted data.

I don't know of any tainted data ...

Now you write results of "some web research",
without referencing to any resources you used.
Is this Dr. Gebbels' style of discussion usual
in the US?

Best not to go back to such material. (And it is easy to quote it quite out
of context by mistake).(Adding references to the dread doctor G doesn't help
I'm afraid).

The so far quiet and watchful list guardians will wake up, Taniwha* like,
and stop the thread and perhaps throw everyone concerned off the list. Which
is what was threatened when that particular comment was made last time.

If we want to have an interesting and at least half polite conversation that
doesn't get suddenly blown away by the list admin in mid flight then it is
essential that we ALL stay away from references of any sort to the
"gentlemen" from central Europe of 60 +/- 3 years ago :-)

What are you afraid of? To be caught to Oswentsim (Aushwits)
or Gulag? Aren't we free, at least now?

Mike,

I think you have taken things out of context
regarding a hypothetical regarding someone
else's comment - it's quite possible that
you may not have understood what was written
originally and what the give and take exchange
at the time was.

If you actually wish a cite from whence I extracted
the below material I would be more than happy to
supply it.

You should know by now that I am willing to back
up what I put forward here. Has that not been
apparent? Am I to be judged so harshly on
so little? Is this the Eastern hemisphere way?
(See, two can play that game!)

Russel,

It seems to be more a matter of context and
interpretation I think.

That's how I'm taking it anyway.

Either that or perhaps a complete lack of
understanding of history?

(My intent was to attempt to extrapolte what the
world could have turned should the US have chosen
to remain isolationist - as the US was prior to
Dec 7, 1941.
MANY movies play this same game as a theme - showing
Hitler ruling the eastern half of the world - should
I  simply have referenced one of those movies? I
thought we were adults here, perhaps I err.
So why does NO ONE ask me what I meant rather than
try to pick a fight and post what seems to be
inflamatory material?)
