Hi!

This is really [OT], I do not know where to search for this.

I own a russian (think so) small motor, I would be glad if someone can
translate just its technical data. I cannot use a translator: how to write
the characters?

If someone can help me I will be glad to send him the pages (a 130Kb image,
about 100 words).

Thanks in advance,
Diego.

I can. Send me the image off-list.
I'll reply on-list after my return from Black Sea coast,
Yalta, one day.

Very probably the motor is Bulgarian, made in Plovdiv,
the town of Olimex, if I'm not mistaken. In this case
I can't help. They produced motors for Soviet clone of
IBM360/370 - tape systems, HDDs, etc. Great motors, by
the way. The cost of a small motor was about an engineer's
few months wage.

It is not an electrical motor, it is a fuel one (1.5 cm3)

It was made in the *USSR*. The model is MK17.

Cheers,
Diego.

Five images were sent:
"33.jpg", "34.jpg", "35.jpg" - photos of the motor and
its package.

--- "manual mk17.jpg" ---
Compression motor MK-17 is intended to be used in models
of airplanes, ships, cars, other vehicles.
If you are new to this motor, it is strongly recommended
to advise with skilled guys.
Fuel must be kept in a hermetically sealed vessel.
 Technical data:
Cylinder bore (diameter) - 12.8 mm
Piston stroke - 11.4 mm
Displacement volume - 1.48 cubic cm
Compression - 10..16
RPM with the propeller and 0.5mm diffuser - 12.000 / min
Motor output - 0.15 HP @ 12,000 rpm
Propeller - 180mm
Rotation - clockwise when propeller is seen from the motor side
Dry Wight - 130 gr.
Fuel - kerosene, medical ether and castor oil in equal volumes.

- Description of the package set...
- Safety rant (fuel and propeller)
Design of the device:
Two-stroke diesel and a lot of text how two-stroke diesel works.
--------------------------------------

There is an article in Russian about the motor:
http://hot.ee/airsill/motors/mk-17.htm
(Why mk-17 is much better then mk-16)

Our very own Olin either originated it, or plagiarised it :-), here

If the latter, then it is entirely within the spirit of the statement :-)

Hmm, it seems, it was not him, look at

Make that kerosene (double filtered light kerosene) and diethyl ether plus
oil (I do not know if castor oil is ok for this type of engine). You can
find recipes for compression ignition model engine fuel on the web. Also
explanations on the settings of the compression screw in the cylinder
head which Tal did not mention ... . Good luck.

I wonder if model airplane fuel would work? There are many different
blends available at hobby shops.

Most Hobby shops in the US don't carry a 'diesel mix' containing ether.
Glow fuel is a mix of Methonol, Nitro methane and oil.

Not, it will not, and the engine will backfire instead of starting. The
compression of this engine is much higher than with glow, there is no
glowplug, instead there is a counterpiston in the top of the cylinder that
sets compression (there is a screw on the top of the cylinder that sets
this). The key ingredient in the fuel is diethyl ether which has
flashpoint 220 degrees C which is easily reached by just compressing the
mixture. No battery is needed to start the engine. The fuel stinks ;-(.
