Hello,

Now i really screwed up my Linux box.
I run the Slackware distribution and thought it was
time to update it, from kernel 2.2.6 to 2.4.18.
This also includes a new version of gcc (being 2.95.2)

I tried to update gcc manually but that ended without
succes. So i started "setup" and tried to install gcc
and the new kernel from the 8.0 CD i have.

Well i could better not have done that.
Now i'am really in deep shit. Even a bootdisk does not
work !

Please do not propose a new install !?

Um, how far did you get?  Small details like whether you
formatted your root partition would affect the answer...

What do you mean 'even a bootdisk does not work' ? Linux, unlike other
systems we love and bear with (imho), does not have failure modes that do
not tell you what failed (not many at least).

Sorry to bother all who are not interested.
I tried to install a 2.4.18 kernel over a 2.2.6
The libraries were not correct so i have to do a new
install. (fini)
