Ah yes, the reliable old tube...

Spent most of 2000 and some of 2001 in London, living near
Earl's Court station.  I remember the many times the rain
would shut down parts of the Picadilly line and I had to
find a bus, cab or alternative method of getting to work
at Heathrow (project for British Airways).

Then I worked on a project for Ford near Liverpool St.
station.  That was much better, but I can't believe all
the tubes shut down on Christmas day, and the taxis were
allowed to jack up their rates.  Ack!

Still a cool place though.  Especially walking on Park
Lane and checking out the McLaren F1 in the corner window.

Cheers,
-Neil "I'm too young to reminisce" N.

But did you 'Mind the Gap' at Victoria tube station?

You'd think by now London Underground would have found someone
permanent to babysit the little void.

A lot of people check out the McLaren during races these
days. Usually as they pass it or peer over it in the pits,
broken down again. (NZer Bob McMurray of the McLaren
engineering team is in the media here from time to time,
and even he seems to have a permanent bummer about
their chances against Ferrari and Williams)

And seguing into racing and LEDs, I notice that WheelFX
aren't apparent in the CART series this year. WheelFX is
a strobing LED advertisement inside the wheel of race cars,
and I reckoned it was next to useless on vehicles that go
by that fast. Anyway, they've got a new "flashy" web site

Always did.  But I do remember a big crowd outside Tottenham
Court Stn. very late one night, and apparently, some really
drunk party-goer didn't.

You're referring to the track-going F1 machines.  I was
referring to this, which was always parked at the corner
of Park Lane and some cross street between Picadilly
and Oxford.  Drool, drool, drool....

I live immediately next door to the house where the mother of the man who
started the company that made the car that you drool over used to live. Is
that good enough for drooling? :-).

Probably not. OK. I have his 12v barrel petrol pump (slightly dead), several
of his Champion sparkplug mugs, his vice (only slightly damaged :-) ) and
other bits of junk that she threw out over the years when she still lived
there. Probably none worth much as memorabilia (and no certain provenance on
any of it) but its nice to tell people "this was Bruce Maclaren's mug ... (I
think)" :-).

I'd rather have an F1 but she didn't throw out any of those.
