Hi all. I'm going to be getting a larger hard drive for my laptop. I'd
like to transfer all my stuff over, and of course I can't put both
drives in the laptop and just copy them. Does anyone know a cheap or
free backup software package that will let me backup to scsi cd burner,
and creates bootable cds so I can just put the new hardrive in the
machine, pop the cd in, and turn it on?

Thanks,

Josh

You might also check out the very cheap adapters to let you plug a 2.5"
laptop drive into a standard IDE cable in your desktop system.  I think I
paid $10 for mine, worked like a dream.  I needed to load Linux on an old
486 laptop with no CD drive.

Laptop (2.5" standard) are 44 Pin IDE drives, the first 40 pins are the same
as a standard IDE cable, the extra 4 pins are :

41 +5V
42 +5V
43 GND (also tied to pin 40)
44 NC

Most good computer shops sell a kit, that has a 2.5" to 3" mounting cradle,
signal and power adaptor board (power is on a 5 1/4" drive plug) and a few
screws. In au they are roughly $10au

Regards,

Kat.
