'[OT]: Knob turner?'

I am looking into a mechical "knob turner" that might be used to adjust
audio panel controls. Ideally, it would not prohibit manual adjustment at
the panel.

Unless someone can offer a better idea I suppose I will pursue using some
sort of RC servo to friction drive.
I need to control four knobs fairly close spaced.

Look for Alps and other motorized potentiometers. They have a friction
clutch that allows the user to move the control by hand. They are usually
built for audio so log (A taper) but expensive N-switch and linear switch
units should be available. Probably <$10 each in ones (the inexpensive
log/log ones).

Well, if you design carefully, you could use a small stepper motor. You
can get them pretty tiny. If you don't keep any of the phases energized,
it should turn easily, plus when you want to move it, you don't need
feedback, just step it a certain number of steps and be done.

completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete
fools.

You don't mention what sort of quantity or supplier reliability you need.
Here are a couple things from reputable surplus dealers:
