'[OT]: Identifying Weird USB Connector'

My brother has a Fujifilm FinePix 1400 Zoom digi cam and it has a USB Interface.  One day, he says, his cup of water leaked and the USB cable for his cam was under water for a few min.  Through the process of electrolysis, one of the conductors in the connector is completely gone now.  I'd like to fix it but don't know anything about the connector.  Does anybody find this type of connector familiar?  There is a link to a couple pictures of it below.  I placed a couple ordinary household items near it so you can see how small it is.  Thanks.

That's the same connector as on my digital camera (A Casio QSV2300 IIRC),
I've never seen them offered anywhere and would love to have a source as
well. Thanks, TTYL

My first thought is that this could perhaps be a USB 'Mini-B'
connector. I haven't seen one yet but usb.org has spec'd a smaller
version of the normal B connector specifically intended for smaller
devices like cameras.
Neither Digikey nor Mouser lists them in their catalog but, then
again, my catalogs may not be their latest.

Regards, Bob

I think Bob has it. I recently bought an Epson C80 printer and an
Olympus C-2100UZ camera. The C80 takes the standard B and the Uzi
takes a smaller version.

Hi all,

The connector looks very much like on used on a USB port I just bought. USB
into computer then that connector into the port. It's difficult to make out
the internal pin layout from the "end view" picture but it looks identical.
It looks like its a relatively common connector so someone should make a
cable.
My USB port is Bus powered and cost me #15.....
If all else fails you could always get one of them for the cable!

Found it at Maplins (http://www.maplin.co.uk)
www.maplin.co.uk/Images/catalog/pictures-all/58ZP40.JPG
USB A to USB mini B cable
#9.99
Depending upon how often you need the cable I'd be tempted to buy the USB
port for #15 and use the cable for the camera as and when needed....

Hah, Well I'm glad you at least got a kick out of my home page.  It's a
really sad and old page which I have not touched for a few years from the
middle of high school.  I really ought to take it down and replace it with
something better.
Though it may be weird, I do have a live cam that features my cat.  It uses
a homemade pan/tilt cam I made using a couple PICs (16F84)'s.  You may catch
him if he's in his bed on my workbench or sleeping on top of the TV to the
right of the neon Budweiser sign. Look around.  http://tigercam.cjb.net
Don't be surprised if you see my Pan/Tilt cam project in N&V or Poptronics
someday soon, It's sort of a dream of mine.  (Advice is welcome) Simple
design and makes a nice PIC project.
I'll get better pics of the sizzled plug up in the same folder on my server
tomorrow some time, so if you wanted to see a better shot of it, check back
later.
Thanks

That looks like a USB B connector. If so a standard USB
scanner cable (USB A-B) should work.

I know that, but still no cat ;o)

I'm looking for doing something like this. I'll have ADSL in one or two months, and I think a SomethingCAM should be something interesting. Of course, the cam will be pointed to the bedroom of my gorgeous neighbour :o)))
