Post by thread:[OT]: Good (any) resource for LCD datasheets?

I've got an LCD recently pulled from a defunct office phone. A sticker on the back reads: UC24202 GNAR4PA 000717 Samsung is printed on left side of the board and 2154A is printed on the right. There's two chips, but they're covered with a black substance (on PCB packaging?). With a 14 pin ribbon connector. From web searching I *think* this may be similar to a Sieko L246200J000, but I'm just guessing? Anyone know where I can find a datasheet? If so, probably a 44780 + 44100 combo, in which case the pin-out for the cable is pretty standard. You may be able to trace the 0V line to the PCB (sometimes it's marked on the PCB) for a clue or get the black stuff off the chips to be really sure -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline? I've never seen it operate, but by looking I'd guess 24x2 (maybe coincides with the 24202 in the sticker?). So scraping this black stuff off won't damage the chips? IF they are a 44780/4410 type pair you'd expect each to handle 16 chars at most. About an 80 pin FP80 or FP80A ? I don't want to put you wrong if these are encapsulated (ie a die under a blob), tampering with which will cause damage if you try to get at them. Unless they really are ICs in the conventional sense, I wouldn't attempt to uncover them - there won't be info to read anyway. So, if they are encapsulations, that leaves you with identifying any connections, comparing it to a typical 14-pin header and taking your chances, which should be pretty good -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline? Chip-on-board (COB) assembly is pretty common in high-volume production. The black blobs are about .5" square, I think I can see the outline of one of the chips in the 'blob', looks to be about 1/2 the size of the outer black square. I have stripped LCD text displays from all sorts of old equipment, phones, faxes, copiers, etc. The usual indicator is check if it has a 12 pin connector (or 14pins with led backlight) and if so they usually work with the standard 44780 signal driving it.
