'[OT]: GPS receivers: anyone have the specs?'

Hi,
I ordered one of the GPS modules from BGMicro, but I didn't get the

"multi page "Getting Started Guide" with specifications, suggested RS-232
interface schematic, firmware ID and programming guide, and suggested
Internet information links"

that the GPS is supposed to come with from BGMicro, and I remember others
on the list saying that they had ordered GPS's too, so I thought I'd ask
and see if anyone had gotten those and could post a copy.

Yep -- ordered it and received the (5-page) doc.  BGMicro
has the doc on their website here:
        http://www.bgmicro.com/pdf/acs1394.pdf
... and I just checked to verify that it is the same doc.

On a related note, I'm not happy with BGMicro's service:
week and a half to get the order after they messed up my
address, charged me more shipping than they said they
would, sent some wrong parts, and the person I spoke with
last has a real attitude problem.

Gotta remember to stick with Digikey, Jameco, JDR, or
Pioneer.  Also just ordered from All Electronics -- we'll
see how that goes.

Cheers,
-Neil.

Strangely PICDUDE I had the opposite experience - it took them a week to let me know the postage and then I received the goods in Oz 6 days later.

Now if you want to buy something from Bull Electrical a surplus place in the UK that's another matter.

They called me a terrorist and told me to do business elsewhere.

Did they actually call you that?  Why?  Did you ask them if
they knew how to build a cruise-control for an airplane? :-)
Or was that an automatic landing system for a model airplane?
:-)

Cheers,
-Neil.

I'd avoid that at the best of times, going on past experience.

Hmm.  NV kit, or the Challenger laser?
Or worse - their antigravity plans?
Either way, it sounds a tad extreme.

Actually a digital camera! In fact if I'd ordered the tank laser there wouldn't have been a problem.

I actually phoned them from here in Oz and they thought I was joking - couldn't get their heads around I have a UK credit card and bank account but currently live in Oz.

then came the slightly OTT email.

I am always impressed at the marketting strategies that some companies
use.....

"little man" haha - I'd pay big bucks to know what was going through that
guyz mind.

<boggle>
Why would a terrorist *want* a digicam from Bull?  Jessops have a far better
selection!
For a company that hams up how much they are upsetting the MOD (cf tank
lasers), that is really bizarre behaviour.
Oh well.  Just another in the long list of why I don't buy from them.

There is a copy under the "tech docs" section of their site. Looks like I
wasn't as lucky though, one works fine but the other never gets a lock on
the sats... :( TTYL

I have a copy here along with other Trimble docs and a newer version of GPSSK.
http://www.qsl.net/n9gez/SVee6.html
These units come set as TAIP and you must use the DOS program to change it to
NMEA. Get the program that matches the firmware(mine is 5.10) and part
number(on white tag). In NMEA it only outputs GGA and VTG messages. The
GPSSK program can force more NMEA messages out of it while is is running.
