Hi friends,

I have a pactical question.  If I format a floppy for bootstrap in DOS, and
on the same floppy I copy my own software, to run it in full legacy Ii need
the entire license of the DOS?

In other word, on a PC motherboard having only floppy drive, without monitor
and keyboard, to run my EXE i need to buy the license?

Ciao

Yes, I think.  Or you could use something like FREEDOS or one of the
single-floppy linux versions, where the "license" is free.

I'd say yes, you need a license. Have a look at ROM-DOS from Datalight.
It's available from distributors for about $12 or so in small quantities
(actually you get a license label, the development kit is a few hundred
dollars).

In fact you may try the FreeDOS (http://www.freedos.org).
As the name suggests it is free (even for commercial use),
however I had some problems with running it on some particular hardware...

True, FreeDOS is worth a look. I use it on bootable demos and ROMDOS on
disks that are sold.

The answers are yes, and yes. Visit http://www.freedos.org for a surrogate. Good
luck. Caldera also has an open source open license DOS surrogate. You need
to test you application throughly, especially if you rely on famous but
nonstandard system calls.
