'[OT]: Courier font'

Some programs are not showing the "Courier" font (not "Courier New"), such
as Microsoft Word. Some are showing the font as Courier but it actually is
"Courier New". Does anybody have this problem? Or know a way to fix this?
I am able to choose and use the Courier font succesfully with standard text
editors, Microsoft Outlook, etc.
I am using Windows XP SP1. The locale language is Turkish. I changed it to
English (from Regional and Language Setting in Control Panel) but that does
not help.
Any ideas?

Did you recently change the default printer, or uninstall the default
printer?
Cheerful regards,

Actually, because of the regional settings problem, I re-installed windows
(a fresh copy) and the printer driver installed automatically (hp laserjet
1200). The font did not show right after installation either. All of the
computers in our office is the same. Most have Windows 98 SP2, some have XP
Pro. MS Excel seem to work fine with Courier font. I am very much
troubled, no information (or too much information) can be found in Microsoft
Site.
MPLAB IDE used to have the same problem (not showing Courier font), back in
6.2 I guess, now it is working fine. Unbelievable.
Regards, Omer

Many programs, including MS Word, only work with True Type (vector) Fonts.
The Courier font supplied with Windows is a raster font (.fon) NOT a true
type font (.ttf). Raster fonts look terrible when scaled so you really can
only choose a few size selections embedded in the font if you want it to
look good, all other sizes look terrible.
In the case of Courier you can only choose 10, 12 or 15 point for a good
look. The True Type Courier New, being a vector font, can be sized in one
point increments from 1pt. to over 1000pt and it looks great at any size.
