'[OT]: AutoTrax OS requirement'

Note to all Windows 98 and 98se users:

AutoTrax will only run on Win NT 3.5, 2000, XP or later operating
systems.

It appears that this could be a very good program at a very fair
price. It's too bad I'm not running a valid OS for it.

My recollection was that it said it worked with WIN9X.

Looks ..........
Hmmm
The developers of AutoTRAX have found Windows 2000
to be far superior in performance and reliability to Windows 98
and in fact strongly discourage the use of Windows 98.

So it may but it may not ... ?

When I used to have a licensed copy (before trading it up to Protel 98) all
I had to run it on was win 9X or NT4. NT5 (now known as win 2k) was not even
in beta back then :o) I used to love the package, but P98 and esp P99SE have
spoilt me, I would never be able to go back now :o)

Regards,

Kat.

:) So it may but it may not ... ?

Ah yes it escaped my mind - two weeks ago support for Win9x was
pulled, full details are on the support group site.

Basically I believe the consensus was that Win9x was too flaky to be
reliable and some of the more advanced features were easier to
implement on the NT style OS's.

This may well be related to the infernal (and internal) memory leak problems
that the 9x family have. I know some guys who have an excel spreadsheet that
is doing a lot of calculating and displaying, which will fall over in very
short order on Win9x machines because of the continual allocate/release of
display resources, but I ran it for over 24 hours on an NT machine without a
hitch. I suspect that something similar may get at something like Autotrax.

Unfortunately, word of that change doesn't seem to have gotten to
their website folks. Their tour is still listing Win 95 and 98 as
being suported.
BTW, where is the support group site that you're referring to? Their
support page looks somewhat limited.
