I appreciate very much the fair and humble conversation about the disasters
in NY, DC, and PA.

The media coverage of this chain of events, while honestly grovelling for
facts like all of us are, seem to be making a lot of elliptical allegations
that the hijackers are "Arab" in origin.  I wonder if it is really the
case.  After all, the record of terrorism on US soil is dominated by acts
by U.S. citizens.  And if one can think for a moment that the definition of
a terrorist is distinct from ethnicity, then it would seem perfectly well
possible that these attackers would be US citizens.

I don't know whether we are being snow-jobbed by the media or if the
hijackers were in fact Middle-Easterners, but it certainly feels that a lot
of conclusions are being jumped to--and promises of retaliation are being
made that a politician cannot easily reneg on!  So many promises have been
made that backing-down will soon no longer be an option.

Are they going to carpet-bomb suburban New Jersey if the attackers are
citizens?  Who do you punish then?

I'm from PA and I vote for carpet bombing NJ!!!!!!!  That way we can be a
coastal state.

(just kidding, or at least attempting to on a very bad day...)

You bring up very good points, and I hope that the government moves to some
form of action before the American people get frustrated and the
knuckleheads start taking matters into their own hands.

However, we are at war.  A group of people attacked us, but they were not
brave enough to tell us who they are.  Once discovered, they must be dealt
with, else this pattern will continue.  Unfortunately, people may have to
die in order to save more lives.

Open for commentary......

Something about letting the other SOB die for his country...  There seems
to be no shortage of terrorists willing to die to become martyrs.  I'd say
it sounds like an excellet idea, as long as they do it in sufficient
numbers and do it quietly, at home.  Whatever happened to ritual suicide
as a public statement?

Personally, I may not agree with everything my government does.  Some of
it for sure, maybe even most of it, but certainly not all.  Regardless,
though, thinking that this justifies or excuses or even explains why this
would give some crazy bastard the right to crash a civilian airliner into
a city is just plain stupid.  If you have a problem with something the US
Government is doing, there are ways of dealing with it other than killing
a few thousand civilians.  Any ignorant coward can commit mass murder.

If you're willing to give your life for your beliefs, pick a military
target, go for it and get swatted like a bug -- the end result will be
pretty much the same;  you're dead, and the policies don't change.
Thinking that the US response to terrorism will be to change the policies
you don't like is naieve and stupid.  Why on earth would we say, "Look,
OK, if you blow up an office building, we'll do what you want"?  It simply
doesn't pay to reward unacceptable behavior.

I'm as peace loving as the next guy, I really am -- but if you torch my
house because you don't like something I did, I can assure you there will
be an immediate and unpleasant response.  I'll try very hard not to harm
anyone who wasn't involved, but anyone shielding you is going to have a
very bad day.  I think you'll find that to be a pretty normal reaction,
and I suspect we are about to see a demonstration of cause and effect.
