'[OT]: ATTENTION Russell McMahon must be banned fr'

Repeated attempts ( some successful ) to provide
materials not suitable for adults leads me to suggest
( nay, demand ) that RM be banned from the internet
forever and locked in a adamantine space freezer and
launched into the sun.  I just hope that will be adequate
protection for the rest of us.

Once this is done I can surf through the PIClist without fear
of wasting hours and days perusing the links he maliciously
provides.

Best to all

POD

Never mind that he misspelled "Stirling" in the subject line of his
most recent message.  Inexcusable!

makes me wonder if 'blackcat' reads all of his spam too...or just ignores subjects he has no interest in....  so what if I delete the majority of whats posted OT here, I still find some of it useful from time to time.

Luis,

It's clearly a joke, not a dig at Russell. Mr POD has clearly been spending considerable time following the multitude of interesting links that Russell has been posting (he's not the only one!).

Russel posts a lot of links which are appropriately filed in the
off-topic section.  I read the post you responded to as a joke,
specifically one pretending to be angry but actually showing
appreciation for the large amount of information provided.  Sort of
like yelling "Ahh, you idiot!  I'll kill you!" at someone who just
brought you a fresh-baked pie.  It's a reaction that's so over-the-top
inappropriate that everyone "should" know it's meant in jest.
Unfortunately, it doesn't really translate well. :)

Forget it guys he single handed is keeping Google viable.
Where would any respectable search engine be without
Russell to check its links and everyone on the PIC list
to verify them.

Russell is rather like a virus isn't he? Stealing cycles from the
unsuspecting. What amazes me is that he gets any work done himself given the
amount of time he must spend finding all those cool web sites. I don't think
he sleeps, and I know from personal experience that he thinks (and talks)
about double the rate of anyone else. He must have a really fast internet
connection...

The Spanish Inquisition!

Or was it Russel's plans to divert our attention from the really
important daily events by providing us with highly unusual links
that provide little useful information (but are interesting none
the less). Nah, that's not it. :-)

I hope you accidentally forgot to add a smiley?

If however this is realy serious I doubt your sanity. I recall a lot of
OT and WOT postings from RM, which one do you categorise as 'not suited
to adults' (whatever that might mean)?

Sorry if I am feeding the trolls.

I wonder if there is a PICList/RM effect similar to slashdot effect when
everybody on the list checks out links provided by Russel?

I suggest a test: go to http://beaglerobotics.com , it's my website.  I will
report increase in number of hits back to the list, and we can see if PICList
has "slashdot" effect.

Oh, there's certainly an effect. Any time I post a link to one of my
pages there is a noticeable spike soon after in my server logs.

Alan,

I think you missed to implied humor bit in the original post. Russell's
posts often are time black holes that we happily fall into.

My logs indicate that after the post the increase in traffic was 53 more visits
and 1190 hits.  An increase, but a smallish one.  The data are for Mar 20, I
would guess there will be 20-30 more visits following that.

I've long held a theory that Russell's actual job is to surf the Web.

In the 70's, I knew a guy whose job it was to read the publications that
originated in other countries (meaning the USSR, at the time). A government
job.

Also in the 70's my sister worked for a database retrieval outfit.  You
paid them to find out stuff for you.  She used a computer terminal to do
this.  Sort of the original "Ask Jeeves".

Consider that my wife knows who "Russell" is, and she has never read the
PICList, she's only heard me talk about "interesting stuff I learned today".
