Received this today. At the risk of starting a waaaaay off topic thread, I thought this was amusing enough to pass on for general enjoyment. I see the scam has (apparently) moved from Nigeria to South Africa, although where this person is actually based is of course uncertain. While one would expect that anyone with an IQ above about 60 would immediately realise that this person was trying to steal from you and not give you money, this does not seem to be the case for some people who one would EXPECT to have much more intelligence than that. A senior member of our corporate business community recently ended up losing several million dollars of other people's money on a scam essentially identical to this one. How anyone can be taken in is utterly beyond my conception. To avoid the risk that anyone receiving this might just possibly be fooled (surely not!) I have corrupted the return email addresses and certain other details. (If you can work out what I've changed you are smart enough not to be fooled). I'll also send a comment to their shown ISP- not much hope that it will help though Happy investing !! :-) Russell PS - anyone wanting to assist in disposal of $US20 million of Tsarist gold, 100 odd Faberge eggs and about 50 paintings looted by the Nazis please send me $US1000 cash in a plain envelope. They obviously find fax machines quite complicated as it it took them several goes to get the bit of paper to go through. (Probably worn out). What suprised me was that he phoned to make sure the fax came through OK. They do have a use though. Another con that was doing the rounds (until they recently got busted) was some supposed Investment brokers that were operating out of a basement in the Phillipines (I think). We here in SA have known about the scam for a long while. Obviously since we are one the same continent, we were the first target. Before email, these scams were send by mail to companies. According to a magazine article, a few people have been caught like that. Don't know where the email came from, but the country code on the tel. no. is not for SA. But the number is too short to make sense for USA. Congo is access code 243 South Africa is 27 I can't really imagine anyone being silly enough to put a real telephone number on such things - far more traceable than an internet account.
