Zillions of episode and movie scripts in plain text form

       http://www.st-minutiae.com/academy/literature329/

Interestingly, "Ye canna break the laws of physics", whose genuine
wording was what I was looking for, is nowhere quoted in any of the
movies listed. About to search the script files.

Can anyone confirm the proper wording and give a source?

Yes. This IS work ! :-) (quote wanted for a report)

Were you looking for this: "I can't change the laws of physics, I've
got to have thirty minutes!" - The Naked Time.

45. Scotty doesn't mention the laws of physics.

http://www.st-minutiae.com/academy/literature329/230.txt

An N.D. Engineer comes up to Geordi with a padd as
       Scott continues with his story.

                                       GEORDI
                               (to Engineer)
                       Huh? Oh, thanks.

                                       SCOTT
                               (moving o.c.)
"You canna change the laws of
physics" I said... but of course
he wouldn't listen so we had to
come up with a new engine start-up
                       routine...

As Geordi studies the padd and tries valiantly to do
his job, Scott moves off toward the warp core.

                                       SCOTT'S VOICE
                               (o.c.)
Do you know that your dilithium
                       crystals are about to fracture?

Hmmm. I remember it as being part of the song "Star Trek'n", though it was
"Ye canna break the laws of physics, Jim."

Incorrect spelling of Scottish vernacular may be causing your problems!

Try searching the scripts for "cannae" rather than "canna"

Cheers

You're kidding, right?
:-)

Even if it did in fact find the quote I wanted.
Under a strangely wrong heading too.

I got so many rubbish hits with my various combos that, if that one
was there, I missed it.

And interestingly he says "You" whereas elsewhere in scripts he uses
"Ye".
No reason to expect consistency, of course.

Hm, that the Star Trek parody song by The Firm? AKA "Star Trekkin'"?

I was under the impression the wording was "Ye cannae change the laws of
physics, laws of physics. Ye cannae change the laws of physics, laws of
physics, Jim!"

Oh, I'm such a geek. :P
