What I find truly amazing that a ship of this type does not have back up generators for events such as this.

The kitchen food prep area has a generator of their own.  One for the toilets ( I thought that i  read some place that they were without flush toilets).  one for medical area.

Like Some places are equipped for power outages.  Each building has their own emergency. generator unit.

In our small city of 7000 I know the following places have a back-up generator. The Police /emergency govt. build, the fire house, one bank,  a large grocery store, the hospital, one of the gas stations and several homes.

I wonder if the possible lawsuits to come will change the cruise line business?

That's one of the first things I thought.

They have an Aux power unit that supplies power for emergency lighting
and stuff like that, but not to even have lights in the interior cabins
is silly.

Considering how much money a ship costs you'd think a little extra for
that sort of stuff would be peanuts.
