As a prospective Ducati Monster owner (once my wife 'approves' it :) ), I'm
glad it was Audi. I would have had a hard time imagining Ducati owned by GM
or similar ;)

Do you suppose they will double or quadruple the already high parts and service prices?  ;)

I don't think Ducati parts and service could get much more expensive
;) I was hoping to be able to use Audi car parts in the future and get
an economy of scale!

;-) So, no chance of Ducatis with Vauxhall Astra engines then

I have a friend who some years ago built a motorcycle from a Hillman
Imp. He used as many Hillman Imp parts as was reasonably possible.
Engine (850 cc), wheels, instrument panel, battery, probably rear
shocks, ... much more. As I recall he built a two speed gearbox from
steel plate plus HI gears etc. Needless to say he is fairly capable
mechanically.
When driven on the street the bike is unremarkable - almost nobody
would notice anything unusual about it as it passes. But on closer
examination the mind boggles, as it were. Impressive. Photos somewhere
(film).

I recently went to a classic bike race at Pembrey circuit in Wales, and quite a few of the sidecars were running Hillman Imp engines, albeit very highly tuned ones.  Apparently they get about 4 hours use between rebuilds, which must give them some kind of connection to old Ducati engines :D

Or 'slightly worse' than 1950's Jaguar road cars.
