Unlikely that they would be using PIC's I'd have thought...but who knows?
More likey these people http://www.pitechnology.com/products.php
Very tempting pay, and combining PIC's with automotive applications would
just about be my ideal job. However, the cost of living in Cambridge seems
to range from very expensive to impossible. Saw a fairly recent documentry
that showed that Cambridge have problems getting bus drivers and bin men
etc. as they cannot afford to live there. A surprising number of people
were commuting silly distances on a daily basis e.g. from Cardiff and
Southampton and even Devon.

Mike

I used to go out with a girl from Devon - only a 260 mile trip each way - we
split up because of the distance then a month later I started dayting a girl
in Cornwall - that was 280 miles away !!! Fortunately she moved up with me
a year and a half ago so no more commuting :-)

Depends what you end up working on. I was there for a couple of years, a
year on racing (I was writing a RTOS for 5 transputers deadline based on
when data was available and had to be available) and then a year doing
calibration tool maintance and engine simulation for testing engine controls
for the diesel side of the comapny. Racing can be fun but things have to
work on Thursday night and you have just under 2 weeks to get the next
version ready - can be long hours.
Like I say, depends what you end up working on. Was a good bunch of people
but I was there about 8 years ago now.

>A stupid question:
Not really a stupid question, because it is quite a loop to get to work in
the UK.
>What should be necessary for a brazilian man
>to have permission to work in UK?
The easiest way is to have a UK born parent or grandparent, which then gives
you entry almost as of right. However the grandparent route is getting
tougher. Your next best route would be to get a potential employer to
sponsor you, but that may be hard. If you seriously want to try to work in
the UK you should enquire at the British Embassy to see just what the exact
requirements are.
>Later to better the english of course ;-)
That helps, but in view of the number of immigrants and dialects here almost
anything goes.

Hi
I'm Portuguese and I work in the UK
coming to work in the UK is quit hard even when you are part of the EC
because is hard to get your qualifications ported to UK qualifications, not
do to the UK but do to your own Country of origin ( Portuguese educational
system is full of red tape, in the end I just said stuff Portugal and got
new qualifications here in the UK. Since then many door opened for me and
now I have a very good job doing almost what I always wanted to do. The
other problem is language, if your English is not very good will make it
harder.
I do not want to put you off but is no picnic, I love the UK and is my home
now Portugal is just this place I came from and I do not plan to go back but
it was very hard in the beginning, my first job was as a cleaner cleaning
toilets in a service station...
best regards
Luis

I come from South East London/Kent border area.
My Uncle who was a lighterman on the Thames had an engineer who drove
from Wales twice a week to Coreys wharf at Charlton, ready for 5am
orders; tide willing back at wharf 7pm, and then drove back to
Wales. He did this for two years.
