In Internet Explorer, Right click in the Favourites menu and choose "Sort by Name". You have to do this for each folder inside of the Favourites folder as well (ie, subfolders). IMO they are quite inadequate for storing pointers to information. Most links don't belong to exactly one category -- which would be necessary for a hierarchical storage like the folders to work well. My browsing got revolutionized by PowerMarks <http://www.kaylon.com>. All links are in one big list. Every stored link has an arbitrary number of arbitrary keywords, which you assign it when you store the link. Adding to someone else's answer: I use favourites, but my main way of remembering good pages is to save them. I save pages that are of more than passing interest to disk and add keywords to the file name plus a goodness rating. I save as MHT files so that everything goes into a single file. Almost always there will be a link from a saved page back to somewhere else on its original site. If not you could make the site name part of the file name (has some problems) OR use Google to refind it based on keywords - a fairly quick task usually. I have over 3000 MHT files in my current internet sourced folder (and over 20,000 files all up). Some pages do not wish to be saved. If you really want to save them you can usually view the code and save as an html file. This will usually have some links to the original site - which is usually not a problem when using this as a form of advanced favourites system. For files which don't like to be saved as above you can find the files in your cache or if really desperate do a screen shot and graphics file save. Around about here it's usually easier to just Google for another site on the same topic. Files that are easy to be copied may not be intended to be. And files that are hard to copy may sometimes be allowed to be. But in the latter case you can usually decide from the effort taken what the owner had in mind, even if it's not spelled out on the site. There are of course grey areas and copyright issues in some of the above. You need to decide whether saving pages violates the spirit and/or letter of the owner's desires, and how much you care about the answer. I suspect that quite often people who are trying to stop you copying their material would not mind you doing so if they were *utterly* certain that it was intended entirely as a form of offline access. Wow...that PowerMarks looks pretty cool. Anyone else seen any software that does something similar? I'd really love to find something that allows me to synchronize my bookmarks across multiple browsers (IE, Opera, and Netscape) as well as across multiple computers. This one looks pretty good. Any other offerings that anyone has used?
