Seriously:

Small fleet of Skyhawk fighters available at rock bottom price.
Several potential sales have fallen through.
Owner DESPERATE to sell.
Any offer considered but must be to politically acceptable destination.
Not in service for several years now.
Presently being maintained fully operational at a cost of about $US4m/year.

I say we take up a collection. How cool would it be to have our own
PICList airforce? We could intimidate other mailing lists, and do
fly-bys at the Masters! Plus maybe I'd get a discound and could
finally afford the airtime to get my pilot's licence.

I'm in for $20.

Russell, I assume you mean A-4 Skyhawk, not the Skyhawk of the spam-can variety (C-172)...?

Yep, landing on the same runway with at least two other airplanes at the same time has nearly always been the case for me.

Usually, if you get in during the evening hours, the approach pattern is not very full of airplanes (relatively speaking).  That's why I try to get in later after the airshow is over in the early evening and the airport opens up again for arrivals/departures.  There's always a mad dash on the departure runways at those times but the approach runways get fairly quiet given an airport with 8000+ aircraft present.  The opposite is true in the early morning.  Most of the accidents I witnessed there have been a result of someone not following procedure or not listening to the controllers or not paying attention.

Bob

Yes - NZ Air Force in mothballs. "We" decided some years ago that we don't
need them as we've never had to use them and they cost lots of money just to
play with.
