Hi, even though the 16F874 is a 40 pin PIC
and the biggest package they make, it will
still only make a VERY SMALL hydroponic tank.

I know you can build anything with a PIC, but
maybe a better option would be to build the
hydroponic tank from a large plastic bucket
or container? ;o)

Hi Wolfgang, ok i'll justify it. :o)
There seems to be more and more young students
all asking how to use a pic to make a hydroponic
setup and asking very generalised questions.

Like "how do I make a hydroponics setup with
a PIC"????

I can only guess why EE students have an interest
in building a hydroponics setup(!) but each time
the generality of the question annoyed me.
I could understand someone asking "do you have code
for controlling a pump at regular timed intervals"
or "do you have code for a PIC to read a humidity
sensor" etc etc.

But the general "how do I make a hydroponics
tank with a PIC" deserved a funny reply I thought,
mainly because this same question has been asked a
lot recently in that same unusual manner.
No offense was meant to Reginald and his friends.
:o)

In view of the number of hydroponic set-ups found in houses with blacked out
windows or sealed up garages it is not hard to imagine a possible use :)

I once happened across a book that was devoted to greenhouse projects that
involved PICs. Since then I have not been able to locate the reference.
Does anyone know of this reference?

Parallax offers a course on their website on Earth Science,
designed to be used with the Stamp and their Board of
Education product. Mostly datalogging with the Stamp, but a
start in the right direction, and possibly easier for
youngsters....
