I just went to hitech to grab the PICC lite, for future project, but there seem to be more than one problem with the quality and standards support of their website... that make me wonder about quality of their compilers, though i have seen lot of people here testify for this...  My first short experience this far with hitech:

o Their homepage menus:  do not work using Mozilla, and drop down behind images in Opera.

o At http://www.htsoft.com/downloads/demos.php i could download PICC lite for windows, but for linux strangely it required me to log in...

o ...and... The login function do not work in Opera!  (I could register; got a mail confirmation)  (works using Mozilla)

o There are no direct links for downloading, thus making it harder to use a downloader.

o (Worst) I seem not to find where to contact them about their problem.  (maybe because of website problem...) Is their support really good?

... so i wonder naturally: Do basic quality problems like theese in the site programming exist also in their products?

As i did not find a direct contact mail adress at their site I hope and guess someone at Hitech lurks piclist... ;)

Did they take over the webdesigner that has redone the microchip
website?

Their email address are in
Company->Contact Us
Hard do do when the menus dont work!

http://www.htsoft.com/company/contactus.php

There they list the email for problems with their website:
Web Site Issues: webmasterspamKILLspamhtsoft.com

Yes, their compilers are very good.
If you do not want to register, just go to the ftp site (this works for
most companies)
ftp://ftp.htsoft.com

look around for the demos folder

Thank you.  I´ll send this, and two more different problems i found.
I did not try this as i know from experience a lot of sites does not respond to webmaster@ adresses.  Good hitech do.

Probably all their skilled programmers are working on the compilers ;)
unfortunately the other are playing at the front door...

Since when does a skilled programmer make a good website?

Hehe, well yes it takes more than making scripts.

Hitech support have within a day responded nicely:

"Thanks very much for this information. Our new web site is a work in progress.
If you do find anything that is either not working or that is not
usable or logical, please let us know. We have been making changes based on
customer's feedback and still have a few more changes to make, but we
appreciate comments on the site."

So if you like hitech, tell them what to make better.

I think the one thing that makes a good webdesigner is to be a frequent
web user, not for fun but on the hunt for information, and preferreably
through a dial-up connection. And using different browsers.

Who also isn't colourblind (or maybe is colourblind would be better),
uses different screen resolutions and tries to print pages every once
in a while.

(Worked on a site for a diabetes-related program with a guy who
insisted on white and bright yellow text on a black background at
1024x768 fixed size, animated logo, unregistered ActiveX-only
navigation bar. Standard beginner-advertised-as-expert deal. It's
funny how little of his work remained once I redesigned it...)
